Departure
My thirty day jaunt through the eastern portions of Europe begins Tuesday morning. In anticipation and desire, I can say I’m quite ready for the trip. In more practical measures, I can’t say I’m exactly ready for it. My first night will be spent in Salzburg, but I’ve yet to secure an actual place to spend that night. this will be amended soon, but it is illustrative of the spirit of the trip itself: easy come, easy go.
I will be traveling with only one bag (see above). Along with the clothes on my back on any given day, the bag will be home to three extra shirts, one pair of shorts, three pairs of socks, two pairs of fancy undergarments, one pair of swimming trunks, my Cubbies hat, and a light jacket. Additionally, it will also house a lap top, a paperback spy novel, a journal, a camera, a quick dry towel (thanks Hottie!) and an outdated guidebook. When I spell it out, it seems like a lot, but when I look at the bag I know it’s just my mind playing tricks on me.
There are probably a few more things I could pack that would be useful or handy, but that sort of mindset is a slippery slope. Before I know it, I’d be bogged down with a couple of duffel bags and a sore back throughout the entire trip.
In addition to Munich, my tentative itinerary will also be taking me to:
Austria: Salzburg, Vienna
Hungary: Budapest
Poland: Krakow, Warsaw, Gdansk
Baltic Nations: Vilnius, Riga, Talinn (hopefully)
Czech Republic: Prague, Cesky Krumlov, Plzen
Stay tuned for semi-regular updates and sessions of kvetching about not packing one thing or another.
